Car cameras promise better road safety – and increasing legal risk for automakers

Even when used to improve safety, in-car cameras risk running afoul of rights provided by California’s robust data privacy regime. Legislators are attempting to address this conflict through pending Senate Bill 296, which would impose disclosure and consent obligations on car manufacturers and dealers when selling new cars.
