Rural California firm celebrates pride
California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. hosted its 1st Annual CRLA Pride Celebration event on June 21 at The Abbey in West Hollywood. In 2007, CRLA made the LGBT Program part of its core programs. Dan Torres, director of CRLA's LGBT program, said that in the rural communities that CRLA serves there are very few resources for LGBT people and immigrant LGBT people have to face added discrimination. "Although our state is working towards creating equality for LGBT people, there are still many inequalities in the lived experiences of LGBT rural people," Torres said. -Connie Lopez
