Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup removed a law clerk from a case last week after allegations of a conflict were raised by the plaintiff in a patent lawsuit over the clerk’s ownership of Alphabet Inc. stock and past work at the company.
Legal observers said the decision was an easy call, but it highlights renewed scrutiny of federal judges’ investment portfolios.
