Guerrero nominated to be next chief justice; Oakland trial judge Evans elevated
The move comes just two weeks after Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye announced she would not seek another 12-year term in the November election.

This time, the governor didn't wait.
Gov. Gavin Newsom nominated Justice Patricia Guerrero, 50, to be California Chief Justice. Also Wednesday, named Alameda County Superior Court Judge Kelli Evans, 53, to replace Guerrero as an associate justice.
