GM to appeal $102.6M verdict over engine defect claims
The federal jury in San Francisco resolved a 2016 lawsuit that claimed internal GM documents showed that the company was aware of a defect in the engines’ piston rings, but decided to ignore it.
General Motors plans to appeal a federal jury’s $102.6 million award to a class of owners and lessees, who claimed that the company hid an engine defect that caused excessive oil consumption in sports utility vehicles and light trucks, resulting in engine damage, stalls and premature breakdowns.
