With humility and curiosity, we ask better questions to guide clients towards solutions that make sense for them. In a world where political rhetoric has unleashed an “us versus them” chasm, I encourage everyone in our legal community to set aside preconceived notions of culture and approach each client with genuine curiosity.

I’ve worked for nearly twenty-five years with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and, in many of these cases, I’ve facilitated resolutions that initially seemed impossible. I didn’t appreciate the nature of these connections until I was asked to present on cultural awareness in Family Law just over a decade ago. In that presentation, I shared a story that made me realize the importance of my own cultural experiences in the work I do.
