Tenant wins $7.4M for fall through sliding glass door

Counsel for the defendant company denied liability, arguing that the plaintiff could not establish causation because there was no evidence the conditions of the apartment caused him to fall.

A San Francisco jury awarded a tenant $7.4 million in a personal injury lawsuit against his landlord for failing to install safety glass in a sliding door that the tenant fell through.

The jury found that the defendant, Franciscana Apartments LLC, was negligent, but found the plaintiff, Ashish Talwar, was 45% at fault in the matter that severed his ulnar nerve and resulted in a diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome.
