San Jose's Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley has nabbed two attorneys: Philip Gregory for its San Jose office and Gerald Knapton for its Los Angeles office.
"Their arrivals signal our continued growth, and although the economy has slowed, our work representing middle-market companies remains robust," says managing partner Rick Wilson. "Gerry and Phil are both a perfect fit for our long-term strategic vision."
Knapton, who started at the firm on July 1, was a partner with Cooper Kardaras & Kelleher. The expert in litigation management and fee disputes was with the Pasadena-based firm for more than 10 years, during which he developed professional relationships with Ropers Majeski litigators.
"The firm," he says, referring to Cooper Kardaras, "was going in a different direction than I was, and I thought it was time for a change. I think I'm a better fit here."
On June 24, Gregory joined the San Jose office of Ropers Majeski after five years of spending time with his family rather than practicing law.
Before that, he served as vice president of legal and regulatory affairs and general counsel at Freemont's Spectra Laboratories Inc., a developer of treatment for people with kidney failure. The business litigator left the company in 1997 after assisting in its acquisition by German company Frensenius AG.
"One of the primary things I like about Ropers are the people and their litigation sense," Gregory says. "Ropers is oriented toward resolving cases in a cost-efficient and timely manner. Given the current economy, that is what clients are going to be looking for."
Gregory spent the bulk of his career at Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel in San Jose, where he practiced from 1982 to 1996.
Ropers Majeski has 121 attorneys firmwide, with other offices in Redwood City, San Francisco and New York. The San Jose headquarters has 47 attorneys, and the Los Angeles office has 29.
