LOS ANGELES - More than 2,500 young professionals in the entertainment, legal and finance industries showed up Saturday night for Bet Tzedek's sixth annual Justice Ball, the nonprofit legal firm's second-largest fund-raiser of the year.
The event, which filled three floors of the Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, is expected to raise more than $300,000 for the firm, which provides free legal services for the elderly and impoverished in Los Angeles, according to Executive Director David Lash.
"In terms of the number of people and exposure, this is the biggest," Lash said.
Celebrity co-chairs included Camryn Manheim of "The Practice," Greg Germann of "Ally McBeal," Deborah Messing of "Will & Grace," Timothy Busfield of "West Wing" and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. Manheim did public service announcements and videos for the fund-raiser and even lined up one of the bands, Smitten, featuring Marla Sokoloff, also of "The Practice."
"We really need these organizations in every city in every state," Manheim said.
"If one person doesn't get justice, there is no justice," Germann said.
And, he added, Bet Tzedek organizers "throw great parties."
The evening also featured Boogie Knights, a '70s cover band; Jason Bentley, a Los Angeles disc jockey; and Elan, a band that plays a mix of roots, rock, reggae and hip-hop.
