BURGER CHAIN FEELS FRESH AFTER RECENT ACQUISITION
Wendy's International Inc. has agreed to acquire Fresh Enterprises Inc., the parent company of Baja Fresh Mexican Grill. The all-cash deal was announced May 31 and is worth $275 million.
Dublin, Ohio's Wendy's is a hamburger fast-food chain with more than 6,000 restaurants throughout the world. Wendy's also owns Tom Hortons, a coffee and baked goods chain in Canada.
Thousand Oaks-based Fresh Enterprises provides fast, healthy Mexican food without the use of microwaves, freezers or MSG. The company operates and franchises 169 restaurants in 16 states and the District of Columbia.
Dallas-based Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld represented Wendy's in the transaction. Partner Steven Patterson led the deal team from Washington, D.C. Partner Rick Burdick assisted. Of-counsel John McIlvery and associate Afshin Hakim chipped in from Los Angeles.
San Francisco's Pillsbury Winthrop represented Fresh Enterprises. Los Angeles partner Anna Graves led the deal team. Partner Dana Newman assisted with associates Scott Sims, Albert Asatoorian, Anita Yang, Erik Tofft and Arsineh Voskanian pitching in. Partner Cindy Schlaefer assisted from Palo Alto.
