MOLECULAR DEVICES PAYS $22 MILLION FOR IMAGING
Molecular Devices Corp. has acquired Universal Imaging Corp. The $22 million cash deal was announced June 3. Sunnyvale's Molecular Devices produces measurement systems used in developing new drugs. Its products can measure the concentration of a substance in a sample drug or the contaminants in a drug.

Downingtown, Pa.'s Universal Imaging produces and sells software and imaging systems, including digital and video microscopes, used in cell biology and related industries.
Palo Alto's Cooley Godward represented Molecular Devices. Partner Suzanne Sawochka Hooper led the deal team, comprising partner Lea Anne Storum and associate Michelle Sonu Park.
Philadelphia's Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley represented Universal Imaging. Partner Alan Zeiger led the deal team. Partners Michael Medveckus and Robert Broder assisted with Bernadette Sparling chipping in.
