Cleveland's Jones Day Reavis & Pogue continues to expand its intellectual property litigation practice in Southern California by attracting attorneys from Los Angeles intellectual property boutique Lyon & Lyon.
Lawrence LaPorte joined Jones Day's Los Angeles office earlier this month. Of -counsel David Randall will start in July.
Between its Los Angeles and Irvine offices, Jones Day now has 26 intellectual property litigation attorneys.
"This combination of new and existing intellectual firepower positions us as the go-to law firm in Southern California for complex intellectual property litigation," Rick McKnight, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Los Angeles office, says.
LaPorte says he joined Jones Day because the firm has "a vision to build the premier IP practice in the United States, and that's very attractive."
He is one of many attorneys who have made the move from Lyon & Lyon to Jones Day.
Last year, Irvine partner Allan Jansen made the switch from Lyon & Lyon. Earlier this year, Jones Day recruited former Lyon & Lyon managing partner Robert Dickerson and rainmaker Robert Weiss.
Last month, partners Donald McCarthy and Jerrold Reilly confirmed they were leaving Lyon & Lyone, and they since have started at Jones Day.
Five associates have joined Jones Day from Lyon & Lyon in recent months, as well.
Legal recruiter Larry Watanabe, who brokered the deals that sent LaPorte, Randall, Dickerson, McCarthy and Reilly to Jones Day, says that the firm now has one of the largest intellectual property litigation practices in the region.
Jones Day has 1,600 attorneys across 26 locations worldwide. About 120 attorneys in the firm focus on intellectual property litigation, McKnight says, and that number should increase in 2002.
Lyon & Lyon has 100 attorneys.
