TIER TECHNOLOGIES WILL BUY OFFICIAL PAYMENTS
Tier Technologies Inc. will acquire Official Payments Corp. for $75 million in cash. The deal was announced May 31. Walnut Creek-based Tier Technologies provides consulting, transaction processing, such as child support payments and systems design services, including billing systems to government, health care and finance markets.

Stamford, Conn.'s Official Payments allows U.S. residents to make their government payments, such as taxes and traffic fines, by phone or Internet with credit cards.
San Francisco's Farella Braun + Martel represented Tier Technologies. Of-counsel Bruce Deming led the deal team, which included associates Jack Martel and Jason Brandwene.
