Former San Jose City Attorney Joan R. Gallo has left Terra Law to start Realty Law, a new firm focused exclusively on real estate and land use transactions and litigation.
Gallo is joined by Terra Law co-founders George H. Cole and William L. Myers. Before founding Terra Law, Cole practiced at Jackson Tufts Cole & Black, and Myers worked at Morrison & Foerster.
Gallo served as San Jose's city attorney from 1985 to 2000. In 1997, California Lawyer magazine, a Daily Journal publication, named her California Lawyer of the Year for her novel approach to limiting gang activity, which has been used as a model in cities nationwide.
Gallo says she formed Realty Law because 12-attorney Terra Law set out to focus on real estate but had become a general litigation practice.
Realty Law's San Jose office opened June 3 with seven attorneys.
