Communications chip maker TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. will buy Sawtek Inc., a wireless-component designer.
The stock deal is worth $1.3 billion.
TriQuint, based in Hillsboro, Ore., designs semiconductors used in cellular phones, optical networking and aerospace applications.
Orlando, Fla.'s Sawtek builds special filters used to eliminate noise from wireless signals.
Both companies derive a majority of their business from the mobile-phone market, and their clients customers include Nokia Corp., LM Ericsson and Lucent Technologies Inc.
Palo Alto's Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati represented TriQuint. Partner Steve Camahort led the deal team, which consisted of Palo Alto partners Robert Latta, Michael Schultz, Roger Stern, Marc Gottschalk and Michael Okada and associates Julia Reigel and Jenny Yeh.
