Ted Miller, the former Los Angeles managing partner for Chicago's Sidley & Austin, is now in charge of two offices for the newly merged Sidley Austin Brown & Wood law firm.
Miller, who was out of town at press time, became the head of both the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices of the new Sidley Austin firm when it was created last month.
Sidley & Austin and the New York-based Brown & Wood no doubt had a bun in the oven when they announced their intent to merge in February. The pair made it official on April 24.
At the time of the earlier announcement, Miller said, "The merger provides opportunities for both firms to better serve existing clients and to combine services for new clients."
Sidley & Austin was best known for its general corporate work, while Brown & Wood focused on capital markets law.
Combined, they have 1,325 lawyers in 13 worldwide offices. Miller will head 145 lawyers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. All but 24 of those are in Los Angeles.
Sidley Austin expects to pull in $700 million in revenues for 2001, more than $50 million above the 2000 revenues of California's largest firm, Latham & Watkins.
On May 2, the merged firm announced the election of 17 new partners. The Californians in the bunch are Los Angeles litigators Catherine Valerio Barrad, Robert Holland and Rollin Ransom.
