Add litigation to the list of practice areas handled by Baker & Hostetler's Costa Mesa office. The Cleveland-based firm picked up the practice area with the addition of Joseph Chairez, who started on Aug. 1.
The complex-business litigator, who joins the firm as a partner, brings along associate Fabio Cabezas to give the office a litigation practice group of two. Both attorneys come to Baker & Hostetler from Irvine's Daehnke & Cruz.
"I liked the idea of helping the office build their litigation practice rather than just being a cog in the wheel," Chairez says.
With the additions of Chairez and Cabezas, the office has six attorneys. Besides the new litigation practice, the office does work in trusts and estates and tax law.
"We believe Joe will be an asset to the firm and will help us expand the scope of the services to our clients," says Costa Mesa partner-in-charge George Mooradian, who founded the office 11/2 years ago. "He's a seasoned litigator and the first litigation partner we're bringing into the Orange County office, and we are looking to him take a leadership role."
Daehnke & Cruz now has eight attorneys, who handle general business law, with an emphasis on environmental, insurance and employment matters.
"It's a great opportunity for Joe to head a litigation practice at a national firm," name partner John Cruz says of Chairez's departure.
Sandy Lechtick of Los Angeles' Esquire Inc. brokered the move.
Baker & Hostetler has 10 offices in the country and employs 525 attorneys. In addition to Costa Mesa, the firm has offices in Los Angeles, Houston, Cincinnati, New York, Denver, Washington, D.C., Columbus, Ohio, and Orlando, Fla.
