Chief Justice Ronald M. George has appointed seven new members - four judges, one court commissioner and two court executives. The State Bar's Board of Governors has named two attorneys, and the new president of the California Judges Association will be the 10th new member.
New members will serve three-year terms starting Sept. 15.
The 21 voting members of the Judicial Council include the chief justice, 14 judges appointed by the chief justice, including one Supreme Court associate justice, three appellate justices and 10 trial judges; four attorney members appointed by the State Bar and one member from each house of the Legislature. The council also has six advisory members, who serve one-year terms.
The chief justice's new appointments are:
Justice Laurence D. Kay, a presiding justice of the Court of Appeal in San Francisco, succeeding Justice Richard D. Aldrich of Los Angeles.
Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Jack Komar, succeeding Justice Ronald B. Robie of the Court of Appeal in Sacramento.
Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Heather D. Morse, succeeding Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Leonard P. Edwards.
Tuolumne County Presiding Judge Eric L. DuTemple, succeeding San Francisco Superior Court Judge Donna J. Hitchens.
Sacramento County Commissioner Patricia H. Wong, an advisory member, succeeding San Bernardino County Commissioner Bobby R. Vincent.
San Bernardino County Executive Officer Tressa Sloan Kentner, an advisory member, succeeding Alameda County Executive Officer Arthur Sims.
Shasta County Executive Officer Susan Null, who will fill the unexpired two-year term of her predecessor, Christine Patton, a former trial court executive officer who joined the Administrative Office of the Courts this year as director of the Bay Area/Northern Coastal Regional Office.
The State Bar's appointees are:
David J. Pasternak, of the Los Angeles law firm of Pasternak, Pasternak & Patton, succeeding John J. Collins, of Newport Beach.
Ann Miller Ravel, county counsel of Santa Clara County, succeeding Pauline W. Gee, of the state attorney general's office in Sacramento.
Incoming CJA president Gregory C. O'Brien, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, will begin a one-year term as an advisory member in October. He succeeds Lassen County Superior Court Judge Stephen D. Bradbury, outgoing CJA president.
