LOS ANGELES -For the first time in a decade, the National Black Prosecutors Association will hold it's annual meeting in Los Angeles, starting today.
"Protecting Our Homeland with Justice and Fairness" is the theme of this year's convention, which runs through Saturday at the Millennium Biltmore hotel. The prosecutors will honor those who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
U.S. Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson will speak at a luncheon Thursday. U.S. Attorney Debra W. Yang, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley and Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo also will speak to the convention goers at today's opening session. San Francisco U.S. Attorney Kevin Ryan and San Diego U.S. Attorney Patrick O'Toole also are scheduled to attend.
Stephen Rickman of the White House Office of Homeland Security will address the crowd Wednesday.
Pierre-Richard Prosper, U.S. ambassador at large for war crimes issues, will be honored at a dinner Friday.
The National Black Prosecutors Association, founded in 1978, is made up of 900 prosecutors in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The group works to recruit more African-Americans to be prosecutors.
