The New York office of Los Angeles' O'Melveny & Myers continues to expand.
Following the announcement that it intends to acquire New York-based O'Sullivan, O'Melveny & Myers has nabbed James Walden for its New York post. Walden started July 22.
Walden ditched his lengthy title - assistant U.S. attorney and chief of the computer crimes and intellectual property section of the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of New York - for the much more succinct title of partner with O'Melveny & Myers white-collar and regulatory defense group.
"It's an enormous benefit of the firm's practice throughout the country to have someone who's a known expert on an evolving area of the law," says Allen Cohen, co-head of the firm's white-collar group.
Walden, who was with the U.S. attorney's office for 81/2 years, says that he intends to jump into private practice with both feet.
"O'Melveny has got such a large base of clients that all their lawyers here are tremendously busy," he says.
The move is a bit of a homecoming for Walden. Before joining the U.S. attorney's office, Walden was an associate with O'Melveny & Myers' litigation group.
The group gained another white-collar crime partner with the merger with O'Sullivan. Jonathan Rosenberg was formerly an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and former deputy chief of the criminal division of the Southern District of New York.
The New York office of O'Melveny & Myers has 10 white-collar crime attorneys and a total of 43 attorneys in the litigation department. With the O'Sullivan merger, which is pending partnership approval, the firm has 206 attorneys in the New York office.
