Kenneth Hovet has joined Oxnard's Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton as of-counsel.
Formerly a sole practitioner based in Ventura, Hovet joined the firm's intellectual property practice July 11.
"We have an IP group, and we do a fair amount of litigation work in that area. But we don't have a transactional trademark, patent or copyright lawyer, and that's all that Hovet does," managing partner Michael O'Brien says.
Hovet, who received his law degree from Washington College of Law in 1971, worked as a chemical engineer before becoming a lawyer.
He spent the first 10 years of his legal career as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent & Trademark office and as a patent advisor for the U.S. Navy. He also worked as patent and trademark counsel for Orlando, Fla.'s Dart Industries Inc. before starting his own practice in 1981.
In addition to Ventura locations, Nordman Cormany has a satellite office in Encino. Nordman Cormany has 32 attorneys firmwide.
