Guillermina Byrne, a Los Angeles Superior Court referee, once again is facing a runoff for a court commissioner seat, this time against attorney Michael Convey.
Byrne, who lost the last commissioner election to Deputy Federal Public Defender Richard Novak, was rated sixth among the 21 candidates listed on the July ballot.
Convey, who received top ranking by the commissioner examining committee, is with the Sherman Oaks firm Silva, Clasen & Raffalow.
The committee determines the rankings, and nominees are voted on by 412 Superior Court judges. The runoff ballots were mailed Monday and are due back Aug. 15. The winner will be announced Aug. 16.
The open spot was left vacant when Commissioner Ernest Lopez retired in June.
