O'Melveny Lands Private Equity Firm O'Sullivan

O'Melveny & Myers is only 159 attorneys shy of reaching the 1,000-attorney mark, thanks to its recent acquisition of 88-lawyer private equity firm O'Sullivan.

O'Melveny & Myers is only 159 attorneys shy of reaching the 1,000-attorney mark, thanks to its recent acquisition of 88-lawyer private equity firm O'Sullivan.
Both firms issued a letter of intent to merge on July 2, which is subject to partnership approval.
The acquisition nearly doubles O'Melveny & Myers' New York presence, raising the number of attorneys in the Big Apple from 118 to 206.
With the acquisition of New York's O'Sullivan, O'Melveny also gains a stronghold in the New York private equity practice arena. O'Sullivan's clients include Apollo Group Inc. and JP Morgan Capital.
"O'Melveny has just completed the most successful year in its history, and we have been in strategic conversations with a wide range of potential partners," O'Melveny Chairman A.B. Culvahouse says.
O'Sullivan sees the merger with O'Melveny & Myers as a golden opportunity to expand its private equity and litigation strengths, according to John Suydam, chairman of O'Sullivan.
O'Melveny & Myers has 753 attorneys spread throughout13 international offices.
