ORANGE - Services have taken place for Bert J. Cook, who practiced real estate law as a sole practitioner and taught real estate law at Coastline Community College.
Cook died of pneumonia Feb. 5 at his home. He was 60.
Born Dec. 26, 1941, in Cleveland, Cook graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, before attending Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, his son, Jeffrey Cook of San Pedro, said.
Cook was admitted to the California Bar in 1986.
He was helpful to anyone who required his assistance, Jeffrey Cook said.
"Even with his law practice, he gave free advice to people who needed it," Jeffrey Cook said.
His father also was known for his lively sense of humor, he added. Cook often cut out newspaper comics and shared them with friends.
Besides his son, Cook's survivors are a daughter, Denise Wright of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Kay Mitchell of Irvine; four grandchildren; and a companion, Kim Nguyen.
Services were held Feb. 12 at Liberty Baptist Church, 1000 Bison, Newport Beach.
Instead of flowers, the family suggested donations to the Christian Children's Fund, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Richmond, Va., 23294.
