Laurence D. Rubin, presiding justice of Division 5 of California's 2nd District Court of Appeal, wants attorneys to feel at ease when they address him in court. But when a lawyer recently addressed his panel as "you guys," Rubin was quick to draw the line at casual colloquialisms.
"Without belaboring the point," he said calmly, "'you guys' is not the correct way of referring to us.'"
