SANTA ANA -- While juvenile dependency Commissioner Katherine Lewis doesn't run a classroom, she still assigns homework.
She asked one teenage girl being treated for an undisclosed medical condition to write a one-paragraph essay about what she's going through and how she'd like her living situation with her parents to play out.
"Each time she comes back, we each bring something to be able to educate the other person," Lewis said.
