TORRANCE - As a teenager growing up in Queens, Commissioner Steven Berman was obsessed with doo-wop. Legendary crooner Dion is still his idol.
In junior high school, he and his doo wop-obsessed friends bought red silk jackets embroidered with the greek letters sigma, epsilon, chi and made up a fraternity whose name spoke to an adolescent fascination: SEX.
