OAKLAND - John M. True III has good genes for public affairs.

His great-great grandfather, Niles Searls, was a state Supreme Court justice and California's 14th chief justice in the late 1800s. True also shares a distant relationship with John J. Marshall, known for having the longest tenure as chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. True, whose middle name is Marshall, said he was named after the justice.... (continued)
