SANTA CLARITA - Commissioner Sharon Lewis Miller took a roundabout path to the bench.

Raised by a postal worker and a stay-at-home mom in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of West Adams and Crenshaw, Lewis Miller graduated from high school at 16, and Mills College with a biology degree at 20. She moved to New Orleans, got married, had three kids and became a science teacher.
