The seeds of Court Commissioner Matthew St. George's law career took root when he came out of the closet as a graduate student studying history at USC in the 1970s.

His early forays into activism led to brushes with equal-rights attorneys such as Thomas F. Coleman and Don Knutson, whose legal work inspired him.
