DOWNEY - For Commissioner Brian K. Petraborg, skiing is more than a hobby. Petraborg said he was only seven or eight years old when his uncle took him into the woods behind his family's cabin in the mountains north of Los Angeles and taught him basic ski maneuvers like the sidestep, the herringbone, the snow plow and the kick turn.
