MARTINEZ - Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Thomas Maddock said he could tell the person on the stand was lying when little beads of sweat appeared on his forehead as he nervously answered questions.

The judge was trying to verify the truthfulness of this man's story that an eyewitness in the high-profile case of convicted murderer Ronald Lee Bell had admitted to lying.
