SAN DIEGO - Superior Court Judge Yuri Hofmann was born in a displaced person's camp in Augsburg, Germany, the son of an ethnic Russian refugee and a German national.

Some of Hofmann's earliest memories are of the arias his Latvian mother sang and the historic mountain that became his playground.
