WESTMINSTER - As a teenager, Michael Cassidy played keyboard in a rock band, trained with the Navy SEALs and sailed the Western Pacific on the USS Midway at the tail end of the Vietnam War.

What Cassidy really longed to do, however, was police work.

After his discharge from the Navy, he joined the ranks of the men in blue.
