SAN DIEGO - By the time Peter L. Gallagher had come of age, he had ruled out two possible career paths: fisherman and postman.
The son of a merchant seaman, the Philadelphia native as a teen had tried his hand working on a fishing boat in Alaska one summer, as well as on tugboats on the Delaware River.
