During the waning years of the Ottoman Empire, the Armenian genocide ended Zaven V. Sinanian's grandfather's legal career. He was prevented from practicing law and deported to Cyprus, where he started a small business. But the unfulfilled dream would inspire his grandson, who sought political refuge in America as a teenager, to apply to law school.
