SAN DIEGO - There are times, U.S. Magistrate Judge David H. Bartick said, that he misses the adrenaline rush of a trial.
Over the years as a defense attorney, he tried several headline-grabbing cases, including one in which he represented notorious drug cartel leader Francisco Javier Arellano Felix in one of the first federal death penalty prosecutions in the Southern District of California.
