SANTA MARIA - For as a long as he could remember, Tim Staffel wanted to be a newspaper reporter.

Staffel's big break came in high school, when he landed a job covering Friday night football for the Lompoc Record.

"I loved it," he said.

He was a regular Jimmy Olsen, according to his former editor, Scott Ostler.
