SALINAS — One of Judge Efren N. Iglesia’s tennis buddies once asked him for advice on getting out of jury duty. Iglesia responded with a breakdown of the justice system in his homeland.
“I ended up having to say, ‘You know, you are lucky that you live in a country where there’s a jury system because I came from the Philippines in 1971, and to this day, they don’t have a jury system,’” the judge said.
