ORANGE - One day soon after joining the Orange County Superior Court, Judge Deborah J. Chuang heard a misdemeanor jury trial.
It was the very first jury trial of her legal career.
A former deputy attorney general, Chuang had spent nearly all her time in practice handling criminal appeals. So days like the one when she sentenced a felon in the morning and conducted a traffic-ticket trial in the afternoon were quite a change for the young jurist.
